Unit 6 Project Options:

(due Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008)

  1. PowerPoint options : Read from one of the three links below and create a PowerPoint presentation giving highlights of the information (minimum of one slide per paragraph in the article). Include a bibliography slide with the source (URL and page title) at the end. The title slide should include the article title and your name and the date prepared. Print the presentation as handouts with 3 slides/page. Also e-mail it to me at mjheilman@collegedaleacademy.com (you will probably not present it to the class – unless time permits)

    A. http://www.youngmoney.com/wheels/auto_insurance/141

"Young Driver's Guide to Auto Insurance" 08/06/2007

B. http://www.bharatbhasha.com/finance-and-business.php/103276

"How Can New Drivers Save on Auto Insurance"

C. http://www.ridoe.net/200807/new-auto-insurance-policies-for-teenagers/

"New Auto Insurance Policies for Teenagers"

2. Poster options: Include large, neat text and graphics on the poster, and your name, date and section on the FRONT in the bottom right corner. Choose from the four options below.

A. Read from the link and create a poster
http://money.cnn.com/2005/07/13/pf/saving/willis_tips/index.htm
Insurance tips for young drivers - 5 Tips: How to reduce the cost of car insurance on a young driver.

B. List specific ways you can reduce your costs for homeowners insurance on the poster (review PPt shown in class at http://www.theiei.org/box/auto/a_30.htm)

C. List of auto insurance terms (2 lists available from Mrs. Heilman)

D. Homeowners Insurance Question and Answer (see Mrs. Heilman for list – 2 different lists available)

3. Scavenger Hunt: Using the links above, make up questions in the form of a Web scavenger hunt, giving the URL before each question of where the answer can be found. Make up a separate sheet as a key with the questions and answers. Include 20 questions; some from each of the five sites given above, and also the Car Insurance Learning Resource center at https://www.carinsurance.com/LearningCenter.aspx
E-mail it to me and give me a hard copy of both the key and worksheet.

4. Skit: Video tape a skit that you and another 1 or 2 students put together, that clearly shows (a) the necessity of car insurance, (b) how to save money as a young driver just getting insurance, etc. Have a knowledgeable "parent/parents" (student playing their part) included as one of the actors. Have it to show in class, and be prepared to give the video tape or DVD to me to keep. Be sure all technical difficulties are ironed out by the due date. If it's the small format cassette from a video camera, have it put onto a DVD before the due date for viewing.

5. CA Newspaper Article: Write an article for CA’s school paper, The Echolier, about our guest speaker/Collegedale Mayor John Turner/Nationwide Insurance agent’s visit to our class on Nov. 11. Include digital pictures you take of his visit. The article should be double spaced and give some background information about Mr. Turner. (The printing of this in the paper is subject to the paper editor's approval of the article.)

Full credit will be given if this is handed in at the start of class on Thursday, November 13. Half credit will be given if it's turned in any later.
