STEP # 6: COMPLETING THE FIRST PAGE in MLA FORMAT
1. Do NOT make a title page.
2. Set your word document to automatically DOUBLE-SPACE. (Do not do it manually)
3. Do not write the topics or subtopics as headings in
your document—your topic/sentence outlines are only GUIDES!
4. Start your first page following the instructions given
in class (mentioned briefly below). See the example below.
Start at about 1/2 " from the top of the page and 1" from the margin;
type:
Header with your last name (space).#
Your first and last name
Teacher’s name
Class number/section
Date --day month year
Title of Paper (TNR 12, centered, not underlined)
..........Begin your research paper at the margin. Be sure to indent all paragraphs. You need 1" margins
(sides and bottom). Your introduction should lead
into your thesis statement. UNDERLINE your thesis statement.
For example: ..................................................................................................................................Doe 1
Jane Doe
Mrs. L. Macias
English I-C
4 April 2007
.........................................................................The Paradox of Plagiarism
............What kind of person commits plagiarism? A desperate person? A lazy person? A greedy person?
Most people assume that someone who commits the crime of plagiarism has a motive. Plagiarists are
often talented writers who lack any real need to plagiarize, yet do so, sometimes even when they have nothing.
